President & Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Fedora joined Canyon in September 2007 as president, was appointed to Canyon’s board of directors in spring 2008, and was promoted to president and CEO in fall 2009. Before joining Canyon Mr. Fedora spent the previous decade with Peters and Co. Ltd., a Calgary-based investment bank focused on the energy sector, where he specialized in financings and merger and acquisition transactions for the oil and natural gas service and supply sector. Before joining Peters Mr. Fedora attended university, where he also accumulated field experience while working summers for an energy company in Saskatchewan. Mr. Fedora holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Saskatchewan and an MBA in finance from the University of British Columbia. He is a member of the board of directors of IROC Energy Services Corp. Mr. Fedora is a 2009 recipient of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 Award.
Jeremy Matthies
General Counsel
Mr. Matthies joined Canyon as General Counsel in February 2013. Before joining Canyon Mr. Matthies spent four years as the General Counsel of a private company in Calgary and three years as a Vice President at an investment banking firm in Calgary, which focused on small to mid-capitalization Canadian and international oil and natural gas exploration and services companies. Prior thereto Mr. Matthies was an associate at the law firm of Burnet, Duckworth and Palmer LLP in Calgary for seven years, during which time he was briefly seconded to the TSX Venture Exchange as a corporate finance analyst. He is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan, College of Law and was a member of the University of Saskatchewan Huskies varsity hockey team. Mr. Matthies is a member of the Law Society of Alberta and is a Volunteer Board Member for the Calgary Minerva Foundation.
Barry O’Brien, M.B.A., C.A.
Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer
Mr. O’Brien joined Canyon in January 2007 as Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining Canyon Mr. O’Brien was a financial consultant (2005-2006) primarily in the natural gas liquids midstream business . Prior thereto he was employed by Taylor Gas Liquids Ltd.,as the Corporate Secretary and Chief Financial Officer from 2000 to 2005, and as controller from 1998 to 2000. From 1986 to 1998 Mr. O’Brien worked for a private company with operations in the midstream natural gas liquids industry. Prior to that he spent five years working for a publicly traded oil and natural gas exploration and production company in Calgary, Alberta. Prior to that (1978-1981) he was employed by a predecessor to KPMG, also in Calgary. Mr. O’Brien’s education to become a Chartered Accountant “CA”) took place in Ireland, following which he was certified as a CA in Canada. He holds an executive MBA degree from the University of Western Ontario and is a member of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.
A. J. (Joe P.) Peskunowicz, P. Eng.
Executive Vice President, Corporate
Mr. Peskunowicz was part of the founding team of Canyon, beginning with the company in 2004 as Senior Vice President of Business Development. He was promoted to Chief Operating Officer in [2006] and commenced his current role in 2008. Prior to joining Canyon, Mr. Peskunowicz held management and sales positions with Airborne Energy Solutions Ltd., Pinnacle Technologies, and GTI E&P Services Canada. Prior thereto, he worked for the better part of two decades with Halliburton Energy Services Inc. in various operations, engineering, technical, sales and management roles in Western Canada. His first exposure to hydraulic fracturing came in 1984 as an EIT at Halliburton. Mr. Peskunowicz holds a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta and is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta.
Todd Thue, CET
Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Thue has been Canyon’s Chief Operating Officer since 2007. He joined Canyon in 2006 as senior coordinator and technical sales representative. In 2007 he was promoted to Senior Vice President, Business Development and later the same year was promoted to his current role. In joining Canyon, Mr. Thue brought with him nearly 25 years’ experience in well stimulation services – including cementing, acidizing, coiled tubing and fracturing – and drilling operations, having held a variety of technical, engineering, field operating and management roles. Prior to joining Canyon, Mr. Thue spent nearly 15 years with BJ Services Canada and Nowsco-Fracmaster Canada, working in Western Canada and gaining international experience. He gained unique insight into the customer side when he was posted in-house with leading producers to provide ongoing stimulation services over multiple wells. Prior to this, Mr. Thue spent eight years in the drilling sector, beginning his industry career as a roughneck and also gaining offshore experience. Mr. Thue is a Certified Engineering Technologist with the Alberta Society of Engineering Technologies and holds a diploma in petroleum engineering from SAIT Polytechnic.
Chuck Vozniak
Vice President, Technical Services
Mr. Vozniak oversees Canyon’s Engineering Group, Information Technology Department and the Technology Centre. He joined Canyon in April 2012 with the primary mandate to support and augment Canyon’s technical growth, assist in planning and executing services for their customers. Mr. Vozniak brings more than 30 years of experience in Western Canada’s hydraulic fracturing sector, including exposure to a variety of unconventional resource plays. Prior to joining Canyon, Mr. Vozniak was with Trican Well Service Ltd. for 12 years, where he held positions including Sales Manager and Technical Services Manager. Before that he was with Canadian Fracmaster Ltd. from 1980 to 1999, where he worked in Engineering, Field Sales and held the positions of Lab Manager and Technical Group Leader. Mr. Vozniak obtained his first exposure to the hydraulic fracturing sector at the start of his career in 1979. He holds a B.Sc. in Geology from the University of Calgary, a diploma in Chemical Technology from SAIT and is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
