Shale Gas Stimulation

SHALE GAS STIMULATION is the "new frontier" in the WCSB. Operators are only beginning to develop this immense resource, and like the early explorers of the past, they are learning new methods and techniques as they proceed. The challenge: produce gas at economic rates from reservoir/source rock with extremely low matrix permeability. Not an easy task in any operating environment, but with fit-for-purpose technology it is proving possible.

The solution in many of the shallower, immature shale formations is to avoid fluid exposure altogether. Instead, operators have successfully applied Canyon's LWP proppant using a 100% nitrogen stream as the carrier, effectively eliminating capillary effects and formation damage associated with conventional fracture treatments. Formation spalling and fines generation is also greatly reduced due to the unique proppant characteristics, which maximizes the available conductive path to the wellbore.

Many challenges have yet to be conquered in bringing the full potential of shale gas production to fruition. Unconventional thinking is proving successful in addressing the hurdles which must be cleared in order to reach the goals ahead. Canyon has recruited and employed the industry leaders in unconventional gas reservoir exploitation, and specializes in developing the unique methods and materials required for economic shale gas exploitation.
